Some golf etiquettes are not obvious, so it’s wise to know basic pointers to make sure you haven’t overlooked anything.

Golf etiquette refers to the proper code of behavior that players adhere to when playing golf. These guidelines are designed to increase the enjoyment and safety of all the players in the course. Not adhering to these simple rules of conduct could be one of the major pitfalls for beginner golfers.

Here are a few basic guidelines that you should follow when playing golf:

On the Course

1 – Make it a point to arrive at the course as early as possible, or as scheduled.
2 – Observe the posted cart rules.
3 – Repair divots both in the fairways and on the tees.
4 – If you need to go to another fairway to hit your shot, give way for the players on that hole to hit the shot first before going to your ball.
5 – Remember to be silent if another player is in the middle of a shot.
6 – Do not yell or shout because this will distract the other golfers.
7 – Never leave trash lying around the course.
8 – Don’t forget to mark your ball, most especially if there’s a chance that it could get in the way of the other player’s shot.

Pacing and Teeing Off

1 – Don’t stand too close to the person who’s teeing off.
2 – Be ready to play as soon as it’s your turn to take a shot.
3 – Never cross or stand the other player’s line. It is considered rude.
4 – If you need more time and are playing exceptionally slow and there are people waiting behind you, it would be courteous if you let them play through. It’s possible that you don’t fancy waiting on other players too.
5 – If your shadow is on another players putting line, it is polite to move to avoid distracting them.
6 – Be prepared to hit your shot as soon as it’s your turn.
7 – The player who is farthest typically hits their shot first.
8 – Bring your putter when chipping around the green. This will also save you time and energy.

Always remember these simple golf etiquette, be considerate and courteous to other golfers and you’ll be okay.
